politicize the issue and do a lot of teacher bashing. when i meet teachers across the country, they are so devoted and de dedicated to their kids. >> devoted, devotion, loving their profession. that's what teachers are about, but romney didn't say anything like that. they are the problem. many of romney's answers were superficial. one of his big solutions for education reform is aewne that whave bnal a for 70 years p parental involvement. >> i'd love to see parents very much evoed in evaluating the success of schools. if parent rs show up at parent/teach nightkids are waen stepped up with a question, romney wasn't too happy with the parent's involvement. >> new york city the parents here support the union to otect our kids three to one over the mor and t chll ths me this is coming from a poll of

8:05 pm
56% said the teachers union. when the question was asked only to people in the city who have kids in the public schools, the gap was wider. 22% said mayor bloomberg. 69% said the union. more than three to one. this underscores how off base mitt romney is when it comes to the perception of teachers unions in america. mitt romney is so confused on this issue he actually made the case for the teachers in chicago today inhe interview. >> ecation is done at the state level. the federal government provides funding for special needs students and for low-income students. >> it's just that easy, right? one of the main reasons the teachers went on strike for the first time in 25 years was because of resources and the lack of resources in the classroom. it's different throughout the city. they can't afford to cut to federal and state funding. they can't afford those cuts.
8:06 pm
that's exactly what would happen if a mitt romney became president ofhe united states. the romney/rn ple'he list, folks. cut pell grants for more than nine million students, eliminate head start programs for two million children, and cut $5 billion in title one funding for low-income and special needs students. good plan? republicans want to cutun for public education because, you see, they have a different plan. it's called for-profit education. charter schools are a huge profit center and theare very attractive to vulture capitalist like mt romney. >> the great thingbout charter schools if they il,ou close them. you invoke their chart er. i believe that difference is one of the reasons charter schools s been able to improve the quality of education of those students who beat their path to the door. >> really? improve?

districts around the country. conservatives don't want to fund it and the democrats don't have the political power to make sure that it gets done so that's why we have failing schools in this country. for the first time in 25 years, the teachers in chicago went on strike. they didn't go on strike because they thoughthey were getting rewhteo paycheck. they went on strike because they wanted to make sure that every classroom was properly resourced and every kid had a fhting chance to make it in america. mitt romney, if you want to draw the le here, really made t se t 47% in education today, don't you think? he's willing to admit that some kids are just going to fail and we'll just blame it on the damn unions and the teachers that want to make more money. how repulsive it is. t ur cell phones out. o you tru to protect students' best interests? text a for president obama and b for mitt romney to 622639. you n go to our blog.
